Prisoner may be charged with threatening prosecutor

Already in custody on charges of making deadly threats and trying to hire hitmen, Morris Wade may face additional charges over allegations he now has threatened the prosecutor in his cases.

District Judge Michael Douglas on Wednesday restricted the telephone privliges for the 68-year-old man who threatened Deputy District Attorney David Wall.

Wade, according to Douglas's order, can now telephone only his attorneys and their investigators.

A Metro police report says that Wade told a jail corrections officer on July 14 to call Wall and tell him that if he didn't cease calling the defendant's family in Virginia, he would have "an associate ... take care of him."

The corrections officer quoted Wade as saying, "The guy who is going to take care of him is a bad ass and won't think twice about it ... he is just going to take care of Wall."

Wade already is awaiting trial on charges of threatening his wife with a shotgun because she wouldn't bring him $5,000 from their joint bank account to hire a hitman for a witness in a pending misdemeanor case.

Wade was on house arrest for a misdemeanor conviction at the time and couldn't go to the bank himself, Wall said. But instead of following her husband's instructions, Janice Wade went to police.

Wade was sent to jail and turned his anger turned toward his wife.

It wasn't long after the January 1996 confrontation that he was charged with trying to hire a hitman for $15,000 to kill Janice Wade over the shotgun incident.

But the "hitman" Wade talked with through a glass partition at the Clark County Detention Center, according to testimony last year at a Justice Court preliminary hearing, was an undercover Metro Police detective.

Wade was charged with solicitation to commit murder, but his trial was delayed while he was sent to the state's mental facility at Lake's Crossing for evaluation. He was returned to Las Vegas earlier this year after doctors determined he is competent to stand trial on the charges of assault with a deadly weapon, aiming a firearm at a human being and coercion.

Court documents indicate the district attorney's office is considering new charges against Wade of intimidating a public officer.
