Children ages 4-7 can participate in a kid's craft camp, "Under the Big Top," from 10:00-11:30 a.m. Monday through July 31 at Jo-Ann Etc., 2170 N. Rainbow Blvd. At the same location, 8-11-year-olds will be learning about famous artists in the Let's Go Picasso art program.

Campers will have a circus-based week "clowning" around with such crafts as animal sewing cards and clown face painting. At Let's Go Picasso, campers will learn about fine arts, draw and study the color spectrum. Campers will also read books about related topics, draw pictures and take home their masterpieces.

Other programs for children being offered this summer include "Rain Forest Expedition" and "Dinosaurs, Dragons and Magic." The cost is $35-$40 per week depending on the age group, and includes supplies. For further information, call 646-2334.

'Mame' auditions

The Garold Gardner Scholarship Foundation will hold auditions for Jerry Herman's musical "Mame" at 7 p.m. today and 3 p.m. Saturday at the Kravenko School of Dance, 3400 S. Jones Blvd.

People wishing to audition should come in comfortable clothes and dance shoes. Participants will be required to learn a simple dance movement and sing a Broadway show tune. An accompanist will be provided or you may bring your accompaniment on an audio cassette.

"Mame" will be performed at the Rainbow Library Amphitheater Sept. 10-26. For more information, call 736-7222.

Negro Musicians Inc.

The Jester Hairston Music Association Inc. of Las Vegas will be the hosts for the annual Convention of the National Association of Negro Musicians Inc., Aug. 2-7 at the Orleans hotel-casino. The open meeting will be 3:30 p.m. Aug. 2. Workshops and concerts are open to the public.

'Go For It'

"Go For It" Academy in Henderson is sponsoring a book drive in honor of Book PALS from noon-2 p.m. Saturday. Each child must bring in two new or used children's books to participate for free. Come support literacy and play on the balance beams, uneven bars, trampolines, vault, floor exercises, tumble track and more.

All books will be read aloud in participating Book PALS schools and donated to their libraries.

Rockettes audition

For the first time since "The Great Radio City Spectacular" landed at the Flamingo Hilton Las Vegas more than three years ago, local auditions are being held to select Radio City Rockettes for the year-round production show.

Hoofers who always want to be part of that fabled line with the most famous precision dancing in the world will get a chance to audition on July 31 in the main showroom of the Flamingo Hilton.

Sign-in begins at 11:30 a.m. with auditions starting at noon. Dancers must be at least 18 years old, stand between 5 feet 5 1/2 and 5 feet 9 inches tall and be prepared to learn tap and jazz combinations.

If selected, the dancers will get an AGVA contract and a chance to perform twice nightly at the Hilton.

Actors workshop

Overton art show

A two-person art show, by Charlotte Lang of Overton and Jean Palmer of Boulder City, will be on display at the Lost City Museum in Overton during August. The artists met in the 1980s, when Palmer took watercolor classes from Lang. Both Palmer and Lang will be displaying their watercolors and collages which depict the vistas, flora and fauna of the Southwest.

Fall showcase

Joe Behar's Community Drama Workshop is hosting open auditions for its Fall Showcase of Talent, to be presented in October at the Whitney Library Theater. Auditions are from 8-10 p.m. Mondays throughout August at the regular workshop meetings, in Room A of the Bowling Center at Sam's Town. These meetings are free and open to all interested, either to participate or observe.

Persons wishing to audition should prepare monologues two to four minutes in length, or scenes of two or more performers lasting four to six minutes. A copy of the script, as well as the performers' name, phone numbers and the length of the performance must be submitted to the audition committee at the time of the audition.

Auditioning seminar

Gary Shaffer, Hollywood casting director and owner of Upstart Management in Los Angeles, will hold a cold reading and information seminar Aug. 2 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Off Broadway Theater, 900 E. Karen Ave. Audition techniques, cold reading and what is happening in Hollywood will be part of the agenda.

Mixed-media artist

The works of California mixed-media artist Lee Starkey-Brockway are on exhibit at Art Encounter, 3979 Spring Mountain Road. An award-winning artist and instructor, Starkey-Brockway's oils and mixed-media works combine impressionism and expressionism to form a unique emotional and spiritual style.

Her subject matter ranges from animal and human figures to landscapes and still-life. The exhibit is open to the public free of charge, and can be viewed 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and noon-5 p.m. Saturday and Monday.
