Letters: Gratitude toward Morris, family won't be forgotten
Saturday, July 25, 1998 | 11:52 a.m.
The untimely death of Bill "Wildcat" Morris has saddened many Nevadans. Obituaries and columns have emphasized his many contributions to the athletic programs at both UNLV and UNR.
While his most visible legacy to Nevada's universities may be in the area of athletics, Morris was also a supporter of academics. In the early 1980s, he and his wife, Vivienne, established and funded annual awards for excellence in teaching and research for faculty in the College of Liberal Arts at UNLV. These awards carry both a handsome cash prize and a great deal of prestige.
The William Morris Awards for Excellence will continue in perpetuity, as will our gratitude for the generosity of the Morris family.
