Binion's suit alleges systematic theft by ex-employee

Metro Police are investigating what is alleged to be the systematic theft of more than $1 million from Binion's Horseshoe hotel-casino between 1995 and 1997, but so far there have been no arrests.

That, however, hasn't stopped Binion's Horseshoe and Great American Insurance Co. from filing a lawsuit against a former employee who is a suspect.

The employee had resigned from her job as a slot booth cashier in June 1997, shortly before casino auditors discovered the missing funds.

The lawsuit, filed by Las Vegas attorney Gary Moss, states that money transfer and credit slips are missing and the employee signed for change cart cash that was not delivered to the casino cashier's cage.

Because transfer slips were alleged to have been removed from both the slot booth and the cage, the missing funds went undetected for nearly two years.

Deputy District Attorney Dan Bowman said that while Metro detectives have been investigating, no case has been submitted for prosecution.

According to court documents, Great American reimbursed the downtown casino for $750,000 of its loss and is seeking compensation in the lawsuit for that amount plus punitive damages.
