Editorial: New Jersey board receives black eye

The Nevada State Athletic Commission took the correct response after Mike Tyson lost control during a title fight last year, biting Evander Holyfield's ears. Nevada quickly revoked his license and fined him $3 million. He was eligible for reinstatement in July, but Tyson thought he'd have an easier time appearing before Nevada's counterparts in New Jersey.

Tyson certainly didn't help himself when he lost his temper and cursed in front of New Jersey regulators Wednesday. But the fact is this hearing never should have been held. New Jersey should have told Tyson to apply for reinstatement in Nevada first. But a huge payday for Tyson's return seems to have clouded New Jersey's thinking. New Jersey has shown not only its lack of respect for Nevada regulators, but more importantly, it has demonstrated its contempt for the sport.
