Obituaries for July 30, 1998

John Bailey, 59, of Las Vegas died Thursday in a local hospital. He was born April 26, 1939, in England. A resident for 16 years, he was an engineer in the gaming industry.

He is survived by his wife, Eileen; two sons, John and Tony; two daughters, Joanne and Dera; his mother, Elsie Nickolls; one brother, Pete; and four grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Aug. 3 in Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

MONA CAROL BRISTOL

Mona Carol Bristol, 79, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. She was born Oct. 8, 1918, in Saco, Mont. A resident for 13 years, she was a clerical worker in Minneapolis, a volunteer at Sunrise Hospital and a member of First Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Prudence C. Stengel of Las Vegas; one son, John P. Bristol of Jacksonville, Fla.; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was scheduled one hour prior to 10 a.m. services today in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave. Burial followed in Paradise Memorial Gardens.

OTELLO DELL'ELMO

Otello Dell'Elmo, 83, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born April 25, 1915, in Italy. A resident for 33 years, he was a retired barber/hairstylist and a World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Jean; and two brothers, Frank Dell'Elmo of Philadelphia and Salvatore Dell'Elmo of Caracas, Venezuela.

Visitation is scheduled 3-6 p.m. Friday with a 5:30 p.m. service in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Burial will be in Pennsylvania.

DONALD R. DODDS

Donald R. Dodds, 71, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local health-care center. He was born May 17, 1927, in Canby, Minn. A resident for 18 years, he was a retired owner-operator of Southwest Imports, a Korean War Army veteran and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by two sons, Tim Dodds and Thom Dodds, both of Las Vegas; six stepdaughters, Pat Trembley of Arizona, Michelle Trembley of California, Ann Harrison, Sally Classon and Toni Ade, all of Nevada and Lori Trembley of Ohio; three stepsons, Steve Trembley of Ohio, Gene Trembley of Texas and Danny Trembley of California; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., is handling arrangements.

RENE MAHER

Rene Maher, 83, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born July 3, 1914, in Canada. A resident for two years, he was a longshoreman in the shipping industry.

He is survived by his wife, Beatrice; two sons, Rene Maher of Canada and Roger Maher of Las Vegas; and two daughters, Lucy Gray of Las Vegas and Denise Maher of Canada.

Burial will be in Canada. Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

YVONNE ROSE MARKWITH

Yvonne Rose Markwith, 70, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born July 30, 1927, in Massachusetts. A resident for 11 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, William R.; two daughters, Cindi Menane of Spokane, Wash., and Phyllis Chamberlain of Murrieta, Calif.; one son, Ralph T. Markwith of San Diego; and four grandchildren.

VICTOR JAMES MCCOY

Victor James McCoy, 37, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. He was born July 19, 1960, in Michigan. A resident for one year, he was a musician.

He is survived by his parents, Joyce and Ernest McCoy; one son, Victor McCoy Jr.; and one daughter, LaToya McCoy.

PEARL MCGEE

Pearl McGee, 73, of Las Vegas died Thursday in Las Vegas. She was born Dec. 15, 1924, in Jackson, Miss. A resident for 31 years, she was a domestic in private homes.

She is survived by one daughter, Claudia J. Macklin of North Las Vegas; one brother, Willie Carter of Jackson, Miss.; three sisters, Doris Dennis and Mattielean Carter, both of Jackson and Eathlean Carter of Chiago; six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled noon-6 p.m. Friday in American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane. Services will be noon Saturday in New Light Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.

JACK POCRAS

Jack Pocras, 83, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born June 19, 1915, in Quincy, Ill. A resident for 49 years, he was a retired casino executive in the gaming industry.

He is survived by his wife, Anna; two daughters, Sharon Schwartz of Foster City, Calif., and Susan Slade of Las Vegas; six grandchildren and one great-grandchildren.

CHARLES N. RHODES

Charles N. Rhodes, 80, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born May 25, 1918, in Bakersfield, Calif. A resident for 30 years, he was a retired plumber in the construction industry, a World War II Army Air Corps veteran, a member of American Legion Post 8 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife, Georgia; one daughter, Sharon Adele Bodkin of Las Vegas; one stepson, Larry Chapman, and one brother, Bill Rhodes, both of Florida; three sisters, Marie Fail of Las Vegas, Dorothy Thompson of Bakersfield, and Maxine of Carlsbad, Calif.; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 2-7 p.m. Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Services will be 1 p.m. Sunday in Palm Chapel, Eastern. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

ERNEST 'JACK' SMALL

Ernest "Jack" Small, 75, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local health care center. He was born June 25, 1923, in Tucson, Ariz. A resident for five years, he was a retired Air Force chief master sergeant and World War II and Korean War veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Gerda S.; one son, Wayne P. Small of Ruesselheim, Germany; one daughter, Arlene M. Jackson of Dandridge, Tenn.; four sisters, Betty Gatewood of New Bern, N.C., Norma Goff of Anderson, Mo., Rheba Carter of Phoenix and Bobby Bouvier of Garden Grove, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Mountain View Presbyterian Church. Affordable Cremation and Burial Service, 2457 N. Decatur Blvd., is handling arrangements.

MARCELLA L. THOMAS

Marcella L. Thomas, 75, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. She was born Feb. 28, 1923, in Greenwood, Ind. A resident for 18 months, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, Joe Thomas of Las Vega and John Thomas of Loxahatchee, Fla.; three daughters, Marguerite L. Stivers of Las Vegas, Susan Kent of Germany and Marcella Gran of Avon Lake, Ohio; one sister, Charlene Gray of Metamora, Ind.; two brothers, Robert Call of Elko and Charles Call of Indiana; and six grandchildren.

JAMES WILLIAMS

James Williams, 61, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. He was born Nov. 15, 1936, in Tallulah, La. A resident for nine years, he was a maintenance worker for the Clark County School District.

He is survived by two daughters, Gwendolyn Williams and Andreia Marie Sheppard, both of Las Vegas; five sons, James Williams and DeAndrea Sheppard, both of Las Vegas, Kevin Williams of Salem, Ore., Michael Williams of Reno and Donald Davidson of Bakersfield, Calif.; two brothers, Joseph Douglas of Las Vegas and George Nash of Los Angeles; three sisters, Juanita Munnerlyn of Helendale, Calif., and Beatrice Rose and Dorothy Smith, both of Las Vegas; and 13 grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 10 a.m-6 p.m. Friday in Davis Funeral Home, 2127 W. Charleston Blvd. Services will be noon Saturday in Greater Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Paradise Memorial Gardens.
