Nevada GOP has slight voter registration edge

For the first time in Nevada in 60 years, Republicans moved ahead in voter registration in 1995 and pushed the advantage to a peak of 10,383 in April 1996.
As of April 30, the GOP had 1,594 more registered voters than the Democrats - 355,799 to 354,205.
"I don't see a real enamoring for either party in Nevada," said Fred Lokken, a political scientist at Truckee Meadows Community College.
"It fits with Nevada's independent motif. ... It's the West. You judge people by their timber. The party label is far more important to the party than to the voter," he said.
Democrats hold the upper hand in Clark County with 236,742 registered voters compared with 205,309 registered Republicans.
The GOP has leads in Washoe County, 82,233 to 66,593; Douglas County, 14,311 to 7,459; and Carson City, 13,639 to 10,010.
