Obituaries for June 1, 1998

Robert E. Avery, 61, of Las Vegas died Thursday in a local hospital. He was born Oct. 12, 1936, in Los Angeles. A resident for 12 years, he was a furniture salesman and a Korean War Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Pat; three daughters, Shari McGuigan of Ramona, Calif., Lisa Van Dershass of Chatsworth, Calif., and Lisa Avery of California; two sons, Scott Avery and Gregg Lewis, both of California; his mother and stepfather, Beth and Bill Perelmuter of Las Vegas; one sister, Leah Strelzin of Los Angeles; and five grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 10-10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

MAEBELLE SEVERIED BLUNT

Maebelle Severied Blunt, 84, of Flagler, Colo., died Wednesday in Hugo, Colo. She was born April 19, 1914, in Leeds, N.D. A former Henderson resident for 50 years, she was a waitress at the Sands hotel-casino for 28 years.

She is survived by one sister, Frances Peerboom of Minot, N.D.; and one brother, John Ellis Crowe of Hamburg, N.J.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Palm Memorial Park, Henderson. Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

The family suggests donations to the Flagler Volunteer Ambulance Service.

DONALD WAYNE GREEN

Donald Wayne Green, 74, of Las Vegas died Thursday in Pahrump. He was born July 16, 1923, in Sac City, Iowa. A resident for 35 years, he was a maintenance worker for Centel, a World War II Army veteran and past commander of American Legion Post 18.

He is survived by his companion, Donna Harvey of Round Mountain; one daughter, Sharon Fannin of Fernley; one sister, Nadine Shute of Gold Beach, Ore.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation is scheduled 3-7 p.m. Tuesday in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Paradise Memorial Gardens.

ODESSA FLEMMING JACKSON

Odessa Fleming Jackson, 81, of Las Vegas died Thursday in Las Vegas. She was born Jan. 23, 1917, in Bueford, Ala. A resident for 62 years, she was a retired Stardust hotel-casino inspector and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by one son, Raymond Jackson of North Las Vegas; two brothers, Huey Flemming of Las Vegas and Eddie Flemming of North Las Vegas; three sisters, Lucille Hughes, Elizabeth Shelby and Jonnie Mae Dollar, all of Las Vegas; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled noon-7 p.m. Tuesday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Second Baptist Church. Graveside services will be noon Wednesday in Palm Memorial Park.

MITZI ROBERTS

Mitzi Roberts, 64, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. She was born Sept. 29, 1933, in San Diego. A resident for four years, she was a magazine freelance writer and a member of the Sun City Quilt Club.

She is survived by her husband, Alan; one son, Andrew Roberts of Herndon, Va.; two brothers, John Gaunt of Penn Valley, Calif., and William Gaunt of Richardson, Texas; and one sister, Phyllis Barbieri of Sussex, N.J.

Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., is handling arrangements.

The family suggests donations to the House of Ruth organization, Pomona, Calif.

ETHEL SCHIEFF

Ethel Schieff, 79, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. She was born Nov. 28, 1918, in Syracuse, N.Y. A resident for 46 years, she was a retired investment company owner-operator.

She is survived by her husband, Jack E.; one son, Mark Schieff of Las Vegas; and two grandchildren.

Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.

WILLIAM R. SMITH

William R. Smith, 59, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospice. He was born Feb. 27, 1939, in Jersey City, N.J. A resident for four years, he was a retired crane operator in the shipping industry, an Army veteran and a member of Alcoholics Anonymous since 1986.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; two daughters, Debra Flamino of Charlotte, N.C., and Dawn Marie Smith of Las Vegas; one son, Paul Smith of Linden, N.J.; three sisters, Mary Lorraine Fullmer of Zephyr Hills, Fla., Elizabeth Steppe of Las Vegas and Mill Bannon of Carlisle, Pa.; two brothers, Michael Smith and Larry Smith, both of Las Vegas; and seven grandchildren.
