Old Sierra Nevada Arms units moved

Four vacant apartment buildings, which were once the Sierra Nevada Arms public housing complex, have been broken apart and moved from their location within the city of North Las Vegas.

Those structures are part of a 50-building headache for neighbors and Las Vegas city officials just south of Lake Mead Boulevard near Holly Avenue and Simmons Street.

The property was sold to local developers just more than a year ago and buildings of the complex were slated for demolition.

A contractor who was paid $200,000 by the U.S. Department of Housing to destroy the structures instead sold the dilapidated buildings to another developer, Mike Kinzler, and put them up on trailers to move them.

But months later, the buildings remain on the empty lots.

Four of them were moved across the street into the city of North Las Vegas. Since then, the buildings have been "red-tagged" -- marked by the North Las Vegas city inspectors to be removed within 72 hours.

That deadline had already passed by Saturday when the buildings were broken apart and moved by contractors hired by Kinzler. Kinzler could not be reached for comment.

Las Vegas City Councilman Gary Reese, who represents the area, said he will meet today with city officials to solve the problem.
