Man killed after losing control of car

David Darnel Smith was dead at the scene of the 4:58 a.m. accident, police said.

Smith was driving westbound on Carey Avenue when his car left the roadway at a high rate of speed, police said. Smith lost control, causing the car to slide broadside across the road, leave the roadway on the eastbound side and overturn.

Smith was partially ejected and crushed by the vehicle.

Police believe Smith had been drinking.

He was not wearing a seat belt.
