Teens face murder charges for tavern slaying

Kenshawn Maxey, 17, and Atris Moore, 19, also are charged with burglary, robbery, battery, kidnapping and conspiracy stemming from the May 18 attempted hold-up of the O'Aces Bar and Grill on Rainbow Boulevard.

Maxey and 18-year-old Lashawn Levi entered the bar armed with a semi-automatic weapon, a shotgun and a pistol, according to police. They ordered about 10 people, including patrons and employees, to lie on the floor face down and then robbed them at gunpoint, police said.

The bartender on duty, 25-year-old Salvatore Zendano Jr., attempted to grab the gun from Levi and a struggle ensued, police said.

Prosecutors allege Maxey shot at them both. Four of the bullets hit and killed Zendano. One bullet killed Levi.

Maxey then ran out to ask Moore, who was acting as a lookout and driving the getaway car, for help getting his injured friend out of the tavern, a prosecutor said.

Moore drove off, according to prosecutors.

Maxey and Moore are being held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center. The two are set to enter a plea June 18 before District Judge John McGroarty.
