Letter: Why would second language offering have to be spanish?

I don't think my kids need to be taught Spanish or any other language, unless it is by choice, not required. I do know for a fact that in this country, you better speak English if you want a decent job.
I think the tapes should be for foreign students to learn to speak better English; then they, in turn, can help their parents. Sure, it doesn't hurt to know more than one language, but it should not be required unless you have more than one specific language.
I would bet that Utah or Idaho would really jump on this idea. Looks like private school just might be the only choice.
