Man pleads guilty to killing teacher

Washoe District Judge Deborah Agosti set a July 10 sentencing date for Terry Childs, who entered the plea Friday during his scheduled arraignment on the old murder charge.

"I admit to killing her," Childs told the judge.

His sentencing date is scheduled exactly 19 years after he murdered Rulan McGill, 32, who had come to the Reno area for shopping and errands.

Her body was found in an irrigation ditch in Sparks, and an autopsy found she was stabbed and strangled.

Childs already is serving 41 years to life in prison in California for the 1987 murder of a Scotts Valley teenager.

He has told authorities he's responsible for a dozen murders across the West.

In return for his guilty plea to the Nevada charge, prosecutors agreed not to seek the death penalty.
