In addition to Shamu, the popular performing killer whale, Sea World Mission Bay presents a variety of other wildlife -- more than 3,000 different animals in all. The wild Arctic presents polar animals such as polar bears, walruses, harbor seals and beluga whales, while the Penguin Encounter is home to more than 400 penguins. Other attractions include a Shark Encounter, guided tours, amusement rides, food and entertainment.

Henderson Parks and Recreation is sponsoring a "Cooking Light with Pastas" workshop 7:30-8:30 p.m. June 23 at Silver Springs Recreation Center, 1951 Silver Springs Parkway. the cost is $15 for participants 18 and older and an additional $5 supply fee is due to the instructor at class time.

The instructor will demonstrate how to prepare light and healthy pasta dishes, including recipes that can be made from items on hand in most kitchens.

Henderson Parks and Recreation will conduct a photo-album workshop for children 1-3 p.m. June 27 at Kesterson Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris St. Participation is open to child 10 and older and costs $10.

The instructor will teach children how to protect photos and assemble a unique scrapbook for their memories. Instruction includes how to creatively cut, decorate and write in albums to create an interesting story. Participants are required to bring recent event or theme photos to the workshop as well as their own scissors.

Black Mountain Recreation Center, 599 Greenway Road, will host a "Pizzas with Pizzazz" workshop 10 a.m.-noon June 27. The cost is $15 for participants 18 and older and an addition $5 supply fee is due to the instructor at class time.

The workshop, sponsored by Henderson Parks and Recreation, will focus on preparing various pizzas with custom toppings, calzones and focaccia bread. While the class is structured to be a cooking demonstration, participants may be asked to participate and gain some hands-on experience.

Black Mountain Recreation Center, 599 Greenway Road, will host a "When I'm In Charge" workshop from 10 a.m. to noon June 27. The workshop, which teaches children how to stay at home alone, is open to youth 8-12 years old at a cost of $20. Parents may attend the workshop free.

Although the workshop is sponsored by Henderson Parks and Recreation, it will be conducted by a representative of the American Red Cross, who will teach children safety and first-aid skills. How to handle visitors at the door and phone calls will also be discussed.

Henderson Parks and Recreation and the Nevada Department of Wildlife are co-sponsoring a two-part hunter's safety workshop from9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 27 and28. The workshop will be at Silver Springs Recreation Center, 1951 Silver Springs Parkway. Participation is open to anyone over 12 years.

Workshop topics include information on Nevada's current hunting laws, conservation and the importance of hunting safety. Participants successfully completing the course will earn a hunter's safety card.

Henderson Parks and Recreation will sponsor a Bob Ross "Painting With Ease" workshop from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 27 at Silver Springs Recreation Center, 1951 Silver Springs Parkway. The cost of the workshop is $45 for adults 18 and older. Participants can bring their own supplies to pay an additional fee of $20 to the instructor at class time for supplies. A supply list will be provided at registration.

By using step-by-step techniques developed by Bob Ross, anyone can learn to paint. The instructor will present these techniques and offer individual assistance as needed. The Ross wet-on-wet painting technique allows artists to modify and move the paint around on the surface of the canvas, creating an opportunity to blending techniques such as fusing colors onto each other.
