Obituaries for June 9, 1998

Elaine Stratton DiMichele, 55, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born Nov. 14, 1942, in Philadelphia. A resident for 34 years, she was a self-employed manicurist.

She is survived by three daughters, Dawn McBride and Tina DiMichele, both of Las Vegas, and Lori DiMichele of Los Angeles; three brothers, Howard Stratton and Thomas Stratton, both of Marlton, N.J., and Louis Stratton of Malaga, N.J.; and two grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd.

JOSEPH JOHN DOMANICO

Joseph John Domanico, 83, of Las Vegas died June 2 in Las Vegas. He was born March 17, 1915, in Brooklyn, N.Y. A resident for 18 years, he was a retired insurance agent, a caterer, a musician and a World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by one daughter, Chris Domanico, and one son, Joseph Domanico Jr., both of Las Vegas; one brother, Robert Domanico of Flushing, N.Y.; one sister, Julie Palermo of Wilmington, Del.; and one grandchild.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Friday in St. Viator Catholic Church. Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.

LYDIA K. FARRELL

Lydia K. Farrell, 86, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local care center. She was born Oct. 26, 1911, in Cleveland. A resident for 40 years, she was a retired Desert Inn accounting department employee, a civilian employee at Fallon Naval Air Station, a member of Good Sam Club and Vegas Vagabonds.

She is survived by one sister, Agnes Bassett of Las Vegas; and one stepson, Ronnie Farrell of California.

Visitation will continue until 8 p.m. today in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Services will be 9 a.m. Wednesday in Bunkers Chapel. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens.

TODD GARLAND

Todd Garland, 36, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born Aug. 31, 1961, in Las Vegas. A resident for 36 years, he was a flight attendant.

He is survived by his parents, Betty and Dale Garland, one brother Ted Garland, and two nieces, Brittany Garland and Kristin Garland, all of Las Vegas.

Visitation is scheduled 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. services Wednesday in Affordable Cremation and Burial Service, 2457 N. Decatur Blvd.

R. CHRISTOPHER GILMARTIN

R. Christopher Gilmartin, 29, of Las Vegas died Friday in Duarte, Calif. He was born Sept. 2, 1968, in Las Vegas. A lifelong resident, he was an investor and a graduate of the University of San Francisco.

He is survived by his parents, Minnie A. and Richard R. Gilmartin, and one brother, Michael A. Gilmartin, all of Las Vegas; one sister, Mattia Gilmartin of Virginia; and his longtime companion, Lynne Heimann of Chico, Calif.

Visitation is scheduled 2-7 p.m. Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in the Guardian Angel Cathedral. Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

MILDRED 'MICKEY' HEMLEY

Mildred "Mickey" Hemley, 73, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. She was born Sept. 22, 1924, in Brooklyn, N.Y. A resident for 27 years, she was a retired professional poker player and a member of ORT.

She is survived by one daughter, Carol J. Lambert of Las Vegas; one son, Bruce D. Hemley of White Bear Lake, Minn.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 9-11 a.m. Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Graveside services will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

BERTHA MARIE JOHANNSEN

Bertha Marie Johannsen, 95, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospice. She was born Nov. 6, 1902, in Illinois. A resident for two years, she was a drug store owner.

She is survived by one sister, Florence Okapal.

ALENE LOCKARD

Alene Lockard, 86, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born April 28, 1912, in Martinsburg, Mo. A resident for 16 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, Jim Lockard of Alabama and Milan Lockard of Las Vegas; one daughter, Sharon Fields of Las Vegas; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

WILLIAM LOPEZ

William Lopez, 44, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born Aug. 13, 1953, in Flagstaff, Ariz. A resident for 37 years, he was a maintenance worker for the Clark County School District and a member and past exalted ruler of North Las Vegas Elks Lodge 2353.

He is survived by one daughter, Shana Green of McGee, Ky.; his parents, Lee and Lupe Lopez, and one sister, Gloria Greathouse, all of Las Vegas; and two brothers, John Lopez of Las Vegas and Ted Lopez of Arboles, Colo.

Visitation is scheduled noon-7 p.m. Thursday and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in St. Christopher's Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Park.

Francis Dale Moats, 74, of Henderson died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born May 3, 1924, in Wyoming, Ill. A resident for 47 years, he was a retired concrete truck driver.

He is survived by his wife, Donna; five daughters, Donna Lomprey of Las Vegas, Esther Cronholm of Tomah, Wis., Sandy Risco and Phyllis E. Thompson, both of Henderson, and Sue Wollerton of Fontana, Calif.; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 2-7 p.m. Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Palm Chapel, Henderson.

George Moran, 68, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born Nov. 30, 1929, in Michigan. A resident for six months, he was a businessman.

He is survived by his wife, Helen.

LAWRENCE MORELL

Lawrence Morell, 74, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. He was born May 25, 1924, in Ohio. A resident for six years, he was a GTE communications machinist.

He is survived by his wife, Violet; one son, Gary Morell of California; and two grandchildren.

OLIVE L. MOWER

Olive L. Mower, 82, of Henderson died Monday in a local hospital. She was born Feb. 15, 1916, in Sandwich, Ill. A resident for four years, she was a retired school district librarian and a member of the Henderson Senior Citizens.

She is survived by one daughter, Katherine Pickard of Henderson; one son, Thomas Lesh; one sister, Christine Linden of Sycamore, Ill.; and one grandchild.

A memorial service will be 7 p.m. Thursday in Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, 2 Pecos Road, Henderson. Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

MARSHAL CARL NELSON

Marshal Carl Nelson, 76, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospice. He was born Aug. 2, 1921, in Illinois. A resident for 12 years, he was an American Airlines pilot and an Air Force veteran.

Burial will be in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

LORETTA NOEY

Loretta Noey, 76, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. She was born March 16, 1922, in East Pittsburgh, Pa. A resident for 21 years, she was a factory worker for a manufacturing company and a member of the Moose Lodge.

She is survived by one brother, Edward Doyle of Steubenville, Ohio; and one sister, Mary Louise Audley of East Pittsburgh.

Visitation is scheduled 4-6 p.m. Wednesday in Davis Funeral Home, 2127 W. Charleston Blvd. Services will be 9:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Bridget's Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Paradise Memorial Gardens.

RICHARD T. O'HARA

Richard T. O'Hara, 78, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. He was born April 6, 1920, in New York City. A resident for 30 years, he was a retired Air Force senior master sergeant and World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War veteran, a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Nevada State Seniors and the Tee to Green Golf Association.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; three daughters, Margaret Summers and Maureen O'Hara, both of Las Vegas, and Dorothy Drye of Oakley, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 5-8 p.m. today and 4 p.m. until a 7 p.m. Wednesday service in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Church services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Viator Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

SHIRLEY RUSKIN

Shirley Ruskin, 76, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. She was born March 25, 1922, in Salt Lake City. A resident for 27 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by one daughter, Kathy Hamilton of Colton, Calif.; one son, Joe Ruskin of Las Vegas; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

JANE SALUTO

Jane Saluto, 56, of Las Vegas died Thursday in Las Vegas. She was born Sept. 27, 1941, in Missouri. A resident for eight months, she was a teacher.

She is survived by one son, Michael Saluto of Las Vegas.

Burial will be in Illinois. Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

DAVID DARNELL SMITH

David Darnell Smith, 26, of North Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born Oct. 21, 1971, in Las Vegas. A lifelong resident, he was a laborer in the maintenance industry.

He is survived by his parents, David L. and Rosie D. Smith, two sisters, Phyllis Thompson and Michelle Smith, and his grandmother, Atlanta Owens, all of North Las Vegas.

Visitation is scheduled 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday in American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

WILLIAM 'HANK' SMITH

William "Hank" Smith, 45, of Las Vegas died May 7 in a local hospital. He was born March 20, 1953, in California. A resident for 27 years, he was a material handler in the convention industry, a member of Teamsters Local 631 and a Vietnam War Marine Corps veteran.

He is survived by his companion, Karoline Hilly of Las Vegas; three daughters, Caralyn Smith, Amy Linea Smith and Summer Marie Smith, and one son, Jed Roach, all of Sparks; and one sister, Wendy Dean of Henderson.

John Stevens, 70, of Henderson died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born March 3, 1928, in Watsonville, Calif. A resident for nine years, he was a retired actor, a Korean War Army veteran, a member of the Screen Actors Guild and the American Croation Club of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; one daughter, Chris Robinson of San Martin, Calif.; one son, Tyrone Stevens of Santa Monica, Calif.; one sister, Kathryn Hungerford of Stockton, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

WALTER EUGENE SULLIVAN

Walter Eugene Sullivan, 61, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born Sept. 22, 1936, in York, Neb. A resident for six years, he was retired, an Army veteran and a member of Alcoholics Anonymous.

He is survived by one son, Kelly Sullivan; one daughter, Marlene R. Sullivan; his mother, Hazelle Sullivan; and four brothers, David, Dan, Rodney and Daryl.

LaVerne V. Wise, 66, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local health care center. She was born Nov. 4, 1931, in Indiana. A resident for 18 years, she was a health care clerk.

She is survived by one brother, Franklin D. Hoffman of Florida; and three sisters, Jean Jasten and Eldonna Merritt, both of Indiana, and Sharon Devereaux of Illinois.

Michael Xiques, 44, of Las Vegas died Thursday in Las Vegas. He was born Oct. 17, 1953, in New York. A resident for one year, he was a heavy equipment operator.

He is survived by three sisters, Donez M. Xiques, Nadine Xiques Yurko and Adrienne Xiques Caldwell.
