Columnist Peter Benton: Piercy, Kijowski capture Boulder City Team title

SCOTT PIERCY and Joel Kijowski fired a score of 129 to win the championship flight of the Boulder City Team Classic, the fifth of 12 designated tournaments conducted by the Southern Nevada Golf Association.

Tying for second place at 132 were Rick Curtin/Mark Dutt and Morris Ferstman/Wayne Barzekof.

In the Senior Division, Kyle Davis and Richard Joseph prevailed, coming in with a 136. The Stuart Reid/Steve Halverson duo placed second at 138 while Jon Schilling/Blake Arnwine were third with 140.

Net division winners were James Alexander and Mike Bridges with a score of 120, nipping the Alan Kist/David Kist team at 121. Another stroke back in third place were Michael Moore and Joey Barnson.

Acker the attacker

Although he did not compete in the above event, Frank Acker, with a total of 76 points, still leads the SNGA's designated tournament leader board.

Joel Kijowski follows with 66 points followed by Dallas Massey, 63; Scott Piercy, 60; and Al Kuykendall, 59.5.

In the Pacific Coast Amateur Championship qualifying race, Acker has 223 points; Piercy, 160; Kuykendall, 137.5; Massey, 119; and Brady Exber, 101.5.

In the Senior Division, Mike Diehl and his 94 points leads over Charlie Pape, 78; Larry Keever, 69.7; Stuart Reid, 65; and Kyle Davis, 58.

Leading the net division with 92.2 is Mark Kokowsky. He is followed by Randy Acosta with 70, Blane Midkiff with 61, Jim Licausi with 54 and Gary Hosey with 51.

Junior entries

Entries into the Southern Nevada Junior Golf Association's Las Vegas City Junior Championship are being accepted.

This tournament, set for June 23-24 at Angel Park Golf Course, is open to all junior members of the association, with $25 green fees for those 11-older and $10 for those 10-younger.

Congratulations to Greg Cichoski who, despite strong winds, aced the 180-yard third hole on Spanish Trail's Lakes Course via a 5-wood.

Basic information

Entries are still being accepted into the benefit golf tournament for Basic High School's football team and booster club.

The entrance fee is $85 per player or $340 per foursome for this June 20 event over the Wildhorse course.
