Former sheriff pleads innocent to sexual misconduct charge

Michael McCoy is accused of voluntary sexual conduct with a prisoner and with allowing an inmate to leave a cell, allegedly to smoke cigarettes, the Lahontan Valley News and Fallon Eagle Standard reported.

He faces a Nov. 17 trial date in District Court following Tuesday's plea. His resignation was received on Friday.

Two women who testified at his preliminary hearing last month said they engaged in kissing and fondling with McCoy while they were jailed on drug charges between August and March.
