Stars fail to come up with wins in Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY --- The good news for the Las Vegas Stars on Sunday is that there were no tornado sightings or heavy thunderstorms at Southwestern Bell Bricktown Ballpark -- like the ones that caused the suspension of their game with the Oklahoma Redhawks on Saturday night.

The bad news is that the Stars lost not only the suspended game but also Sunday's regularly scheduled contest.

The Redhawks, who owned a 7-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning of the suspended game, went on to an 8-2 victory despite solo home runs by George Arias and Charles Poe. Then Oklahoma, thanks to third baseman Joe Hall's two-out RBI single in the bottom of the eighth, pulled out a 5-4 win in the regularly scheduled game before a crowd of 6,874.

Arias, who also doubled and drove in a run in the second game, leads the Pacific Coast League with 57 RBIs and has 17 homers.

Dusty Allen and Juan Melo hit home runs in the nightcap for the Stars. It was the fourth homer in six games for the Oklahoma native Allen while Melo's drive that barely cleared the 325-sign down the left field line leading off the top of the seventh tied the contest, 4-4, and sent the scheduled seven-inning affair into extra innings.

Scott Sanders (0-2), the third Las Vegas pitcher, took the loss. Paul Menhart started the contest for ailing Heath Murray (sore elbow) and was relieved by Will Cunnane in the fourth.

Oklahoma native Kevin Lomon (0-6) will try and snap the Stars' two-game losing streak tonight.
