County commission puts tax hike issue to public vote
Wednesday, June 17, 1998 | 9:18 a.m.
The commission has decided to put on the November ballot the question of whether to increase the sales tax to cover the costs or raise water and sewer fees.
The ballot question provides two options. One would call for a quarter-cent increase in the sales tax, which would keep water rate increases lower. The other option would exclude the tax hike, but would mean higher water rates and sewer fees.
The voters' decision will be advisory only, and the commission will still have the final say on a tax hike.
