Washoe County considers promoting acting manager

Simon, 45, is a former assistant county manager who took over the top position on a temporary basis following the departure of long-time manager John MacIntyre in May.

Commissioner Mike Mouliot on Tuesday suggested the county not hire an executive search firm to recruit candidates. He said the process would take too long, and it would take another year or so before a new person learned the ropes.

"She took over the job. She has been running the county, doing all the jobs of a manager without the authority," Mouliot said of Simon.

"She can bring people together which is very important in where we are going in the county."

Mouliot recommended hiring Simon as manager on a probationary status, with job reviews every six months.

The board agreed to hold a public workshop to get the views of business and community leaders before making a final decision.
