Dog who attacked child to be put to sleep

The dog's owner, George Seethe, told Carson City Justice of the Peace Robey Willis on Wednesday that he would abide by his family's wishes to have the dog destroyed.

The dog, Miko, attacked Soetje's granddaughter on June 6.

Taylor Soetje was released Friday from Washoe Medical Center, where she spent a week in intensive care and underwent two surgeries and required more than 100 staples to repair wounds to her head and neck.

Family members said the little girl was in her grandfather's back yard preparing to use the pool when the dog turned on her.

George Soetje maintained that the dog was not vicious, but may have been startled by the child while it was gnawing on a bone.

It was the second attack in the area involving a wolf-dog hybrid in the past month.

In May, a neighbor's hybrid attacked an 8-year-old Fernley girl, who was bitten on the arm.

That animal was also destroyed.
