Obituaries for June 22, 1998

Benjamin Frederick Alexander, 90, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local care center. He was born Nov. 20, 1907, in Dunlap, Kan. A resident for 52 years, he was a construction contractor and a member of Mount Moriah Masonic Lodge 39.

He is survived by his wife, Vonda; three sons, Marvin Alexander of Utah, Alvin Alexander of Las Vegas and Darrell Alexander of California; one daughter, Bonnie Brown of California; one stepson, Virgil Croft of Washington state; two stepdaughters, Marieta Brown of Las Vegas and Kaye Sauer of Idaho; 21 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 4-8 p.m. Tuesday in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Additional visitation is scheduled one hour prior to 10 a.m. services Wednesday in the West Charleston LDS Chapel. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens.

LUKE BREWER

Luke Brewer, 62, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. He was born July 27, 1935, in Michigan. A resident for 12 years, he was a Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly "Bunkie"; four daughters, Susan Brewer, Cheryl Goodness, Lynn Rosa and Barbara Perez, all of California; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

J. EARL CUNNINGHAM

J. Earl Cunningham, 82, of North Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born Feb. 24, 1916, in Scenic, S.D. A resident for 50 years, he was a retired administrator for a disposal company, a World War II Army veteran, a member of Knights of Columbus, American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly; one stepson, Rick Lorber of Las Vegas; one sister, Edith Holtzel of Ennis, Okla.; and two grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 1 p.m. until a 7 p.m. rosary Tuesday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Mass will be celebrated 1 p.m. Wednesday in St. Christopher's Catholic Church.

PAMELA K. FORD

Pamela K. Ford, 38, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born Sept. 25, 1959, in California. A resident for six years, she was an employee at Shamrock Foods.

She is survived by one son, Jeremiah Ford of Las Vegas; one daughter, Jessica Mackey of Rhode Island; her parents, Robert and Ardis Stowe of California; one brother, Robert Stowe Jr. of Minnesota; and one sister, Carey Novak of Las Vegas.

Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling private arrangements.

ELIZABETH RUTH JERVIS

Elizabeth Ruth Jervis, 79, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. She was born Aug. 22, 1918, in Ohio. A resident for 15 years, she was a hospital employee in Ohio.

She is survived by two sons, William Harrison Jervis of Ohio and Thomas Leroy Jervis of Nevada; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

LILLIAN JONES

Lillian Jones, 93, of Henderson died Saturday in a local care center. She was born Nov. 23, 1904, in Ross County, Ohio. A resident for eight years, she was a retired beauty salon owner-operator and a member of the Eastern Star in Ohio.

She is survived by one daughter, Evelyn M. Howland of Henderson, Calif.; two granddaughters and three great-grandchildren.

BERNARD H. KESTER

Bernard H. Kester, 64, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. He was born April 8, 1934, in Pennsylvania. A resident for more than 30 years, he was a hotel baker and a Marine Corps veteran.

He is survived by one son, Jack Kester of Washington state; three daughters, Cindy Ortiz and Sandy Hedrick, both of Las Vegas, and Candy Quinn of California; and nine grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 6 p.m. Tuesday in Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

EDNA PORTER

Edna Porter, 88, of Las Vegas died June 15 in Salt Lake City. She was born Feb. 10, 1910, in Salt Lake City. A resident for 18 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by two sisters, Della Wollin and Lillian Lynch, both of Salt Lake City.

Graveside services were scheduled at 2 p.m. today in Paradise Memorial Gardens. Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.

EDITH OGDEN PYLE

Edith Ogden Pyle, 94, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born Jan. 17, 1904, in Danville, Ill. A resident for two years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by one daughter, Janet Ballard of Las Vegas; one son, Fred Pyle of Hercules, Calif.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

SEYMOUR 'PAPA' SERLIN

Seymour "Papa" Serlin, 84, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. He was born March 29, 1914, in Chicago. A resident for 11 years, he was a retired deli manager and a World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; three daughters, Karen Levin of Placentia, Calif., Sandy Stokes of Las Vegas and Heidi Birenbaum-Cassel of Yorba Linda, Calif.; one sister, Muriel Konitz of Skokie, Ill.; and five grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 1-2 p.m. Tuesday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Graveside services will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.
