Regional watershed users meet

The meeting is being sponsored by the Western Nevada Resource Conservation and Development Area. Facilitator Dan Kaffer says it's a chance for river users to discuss and coordinate river-oriented projects.

"This is an opportunity for groups who are doing work on the river to share their projects and hopefully develop group funding requests, or collectively try and have an impact on the conditions of the Carson River watershed," he told the Nevada Appeal. "Hopefully, we will be able to have a united, whole-watershed-wide effort."

An April conference on the Carson River drew more than 200 river users, land owners and representatives of groups involved with the river. Participants discussed ways to manage and improve the waterway, which extends from the mountains of Alpine County, Calif. to the high desert of Churchill County.

Meeting topics include status reports from groups monitoring the various segments of the river, coordination of funding requests, permit requests and efforts to manage tall white top, a noxious weed.
