Stars return home with new faces on the roster

NEW ORLEANS --- The Las Vegas Stars, who ended a 13-day, 12-game road trip with a 5-3 loss to the New Orleans Zephyrs here on Sunday night, open a brief four-game homestand against the Omaha Royals tonight at Cashman Field.

Those who stop by Cashman may want to pick up a program.

There figure to be more than a few new faces on the Stars roster, especially after the parent San Diego Padres traded Stars reliever Dario Veras, ex-Stars catcher Mandy Romero and former Stars pitcher Carlos Reyes to the Boston Red Sox on Sunday for veteran first baseman/catcher Jim Leyritz and minor league outfielder Ethan Faggett.

The Padres also called up another Stars reliever, Will Cunnane.

Meanwhile, pitcher Scott Sanders, who was also rumored to be headed to San Diego to fill a spot as a middle reliever, could be headed to the seven day disabled list instead after suffering a strained quadriceps in Saturday night's 5-0 loss here.

One new face on the Las Vegas roster will be outfielder James Mouton, who was optioned to the Stars by San Diego on Friday and is expected to report in time for tonight's game. Another newcomer making his Stars home debut will be veteran outfielder Mike Devereaux.

Veteran big leaguer Pete Incaviglia's line drive two-run home run in the first inning paced New Orleans past Las Vegas on Sunday in a contest that was delayed almost two hours by bad thunderstorms. Starter Kevin Lomon took the loss and saw his record drop to 0-8.
