State rejects homeowners' sewer proposal

The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection has rejected the Gardnerville Ranchos' request for a one-year extension for residents not hooked into the sewer system by July 1.

"The district responded responsibly and established a reasonable schedule for requiring connections," reads a June 15 letter from James B. Williams, chief of the state's Bureau of Water Pollution Control, to the Gardnerville Ranchos General Improvement District. "I don't believe it would serve any useful purpose to delay requiring any connections for another year."

At its June 3 meeting, the Ranchos district board of trustees agreed to ask the state for an extension for homeowners with financial hardships, The Record-Courier reported.

Board member Vic Hyden sought a one-year extension for all residents, but failed to get the board's support.
