L.A. HOT DISMISSED - Charges filed against the exotic dance club L.A. Hot were dropped at Monday's Las Vegas City Council meeting. The owner of the club has decided, after facing a hearing for allowing alcohol to be served in the establishment without a liquor license, to close down the business for good.

NEONOPOLIS MOVING FORWARD - The shopping and entertainment complex planned for the Northwest corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Fremont Street, Neonopolis @ Fremont Street, is getting closer to groundbreaking. At Monday' Las Vegas City Council meeting, the board unanimously agreed to some alterations in the city's agreement with the developer, World Entertainment Centers. The operators of the 16-theater movie complex, Mann Theaters, asked that the city not assist another movie theater more than six screens large with redevelopment funds. The city is spending about $32 million in redevelopment funds for street improvements and a parking structure for the center. The center is slated to open in late 2000.

CHILD CARE - The Las Vegas City Council unanimously agreed to revoke the child care license of Lori Irish, a woman who operates the Simply Kids 24-hour center on Bonanza Road, effective the end of July. A month ago, Irish was brought before the city's Child Care Licensing Board for lying on her application for a child care license. After investigating, Metro Police found that Irish had her dentistry license in Texas revoked for drug use. Metro Police had also responded to more than 20 calls of service to her center, including allegations of lost children, employees striking children and unchanged diapers. The city's licensing department has been monitoring the center since last month's hearing. Irish was allowed to keep her license for a couple of months until she could find a buyer for the center.
