Letter: Wynn has it right about cause of ethics scandals

Concerning the SUN June 14 Jeff German column, "Politics among myriad subjects on Wynn's mind." German aptly cites Nevada's favorite son-Casino King, Mirage Resorts Chairman Steve Wynn.

I respectfully suggest that some politicians would do well to heed his words. Wynn condemns those politicians who " ... use your elected job to give friends favored advantages ... "

It's the violation of this fundamental principle by some politicians that is the cause of the continuing, myriad scandals. Accordingly, we the people are energized as never before to deal with these betrayers of our trust.

Wynn is too kind regarding congressional candidate Shelley Berkley and her unethical conduct. Wynn says, " ... Berkley must be bereft of her senses for having said these things." He further said that Berkley had an " ... inane and pathetic misunderstanding of her role as a political adviser ... " during her employment as adviser to Sands-Venetian CEO Sheldon Adelson.

In essence, Berkley indicted every politician, judge, public official and casino executive as crooks who used bribery and extortion to get things done, when she stated those now infamous words that that's the way business is conducted in Las Vegas.

No self-serving apology can save Berkley. She is now an albatross to many, the power elite and anathema to pragmatic Democrats.
