Las Vegas High names baseball coach

Sam Davis, an assistant under Rodger Fairless at Green Valley High School for the past seven years, has been named the new head baseball coach at Las Vegas High. Davis replaces Steve Gahn, whose squad finished the 1998 season with a 10-13 overall record and a 5-9 Sunrise Division mark. A 1983 Valley graduate, the 32-year-old Davis captured the 1983 state title as a player and the past six state titles as a Gator coach. He credits much of his success to Fairless. "He's taught me everything I know about the game," Davis said. "I hope to bring his philosophies and his disciplines to Las Vegas.
