Letter: Don't penalize handicapped drivers because some illegally use spaces

How anyone could be as insensitive, inconsiderate, uninformed and downright cruel as Bill Constantine in his letter to the editor June 21, I do not know. Suggesting that we do away with the handicapped parking facilities and let them walk or "wheel" themselves from regular parking is mean-spirited and vicious.

Anyone unauthorized who parks in these designated areas deserves even more severe penalties than they presently acquire.

Many deserving people may not outwardly appear to be handicapped, but suffer from respiratory diseases, and arthritic or heart conditions that make it impossible to walk long distances, so I guess Constantine feels they should just stay home. What about our veterans who suffered severe injuries fighting for him or the severely crippled as the result of drunken drivers?

There may be those who do not deserve their placards or who use other people's, but you cannot punish the deserving for those who cheat.

Kudos to Metro's volunteer program. May they get all the support possible for their extremely worthy efforts.
