Letter: Ethics violations are all worthy of media reporting

So ... an ethics violation can have an order of magnitude of 10 or a 0.5 and 0.5 is getting as much ink as a 10 -- so says Steve Wynn. And he doesn't think that's fair. Isn't that like being a little bit pregnant?

An ethics violation is an ethics violation, and reporting it in greater or larger measure is not destructive to the democratic process as Wynn claims. On the contrary. Reporting and attempting to rectify it enhances the democratic process.

Does Wynn really think anybody believes his protestations concerning the way business is conducted in Las Vegas?

Shelley Berkley stepped into it when she exposed a truism that exists in this city. It may have been politically unwise to say the things she said, but they were true words, whether some people like it or not. Although Wynn has contributed mightily to the growth of the casino industry here, he has also used the system to his personal advantage.

Just one case in point: The legislation he had passed concerning the taxes on artwork for the Bellagio among other things. How did he get the state Legislature to expedite this crucial bill so readily when there are so many more important issues on their agenda to consider?
