New outpatient clinic to serve veterans in Henderson area

Henderson veterans no longer have to travel to Las Vegas for medical care with the opening of a new outpatient clinic in Green Valley.
The 18,000-square-foot Community Based Outpatient Clinic is located at 2920 North Green Valley Parkway, Suite 215, just off Sunset Road. The 14-room facility is designed to provide outpatient care to veterans in Henderson and Boulder City as well as Laughlin and Bullhead City, Ariz.
The new facility is expected to serve approximately 1,500 veterans a year and will be staffed with a physician, registered nurse, nurse practitioner and medical assistants. It also will offer off-site laboratory and radiology services.
"This is part of a strategic plan for Southern Nevada to provide increased services for veterans and it is one of several clinics planned," Sen. Richard Bryan, D-Nev., said during Monday's dedication ceremony.
"Southern Nevada is one of only two regions in the country where the veteran population has grown and that's a reflection of the enormous growth occurring here in the valley."
Other services in the works for veterans, according to Bryan, include a veterans home in Boulder City and another outpatient clinic in Pahrump.
The Green Valley clinic provides an alternative for residents who have been forced to travel to the Adler D. Guy Ambulatory Care Center, 1700 Vegas Drive, or the Mike O'Callaghan Federal Hospital, both in Las Vegas.
"I think that this is great, especially for the elderly or disabled veterans who would otherwise have to battle traffic into Las Vegas for treatment," said Steve Clark, deputy executive director of Veterans Affairs for Southern Nevada.
The Green Valley clinic will cost $3.5 million to lease and operate over the next five years and will provide primary care and treatment for veterans on a scheduled basis beginning July 6, according to Tony Denogean, public affairs officer for the Veterans Administration in Las Vegas. Veterans must first sign up at the Las Vegas Care Center to be transferred to the new clinic, he said.
