Cyprien looks at leaving UNLV for Nebraska

It may be too little, too late for Bill Bayno to keep one of his assistants at UNLV. But that's not going to stop him from trying.

Glynn Cyprien, who has been with Bayno all three seasons with the Rebels, is likely heading toward the Midwest to accept a job on Danny Nee's staff at Nebraska.

Cyprien and Bayno planned to meet today to discuss the situation. Cyprien interviewed with the Cornhuskers last week.

"Billy's been great to me," Cyprien said Sunday. "I owe it to him and sit down and talk with him. I'm going to listen to him and take what he has to say to heart."

Bayno said: "I know Danny Nee came after him really hard. I hope he doesn't go. I don't want to lose him."

Cyprien, who has helped recruit several top prospects to UNLV, including Tyrone Nesby, Greedy Daniels, Shawn Marion and Chris Richardson, makes $73,000. Nebraska is offering him a significant pay increase, believed to be close to six figures.

In addition, there is talk that if he comes to Lincoln and remains there, he would be strongly considered for the head coaching spot when Nee leaves.

"They've made him a very attractive offer," Bayno said. "I know if it's a money issue, we're going to match it. Or at least try real hard to match it.

"But the bottom line is Cyp is a huge part of what we're doing here."

Cyprien said he will probably make his decision within the next 24 to 48 hours. "I'm going to be honest with Billy and I know he's going to be honest with me," he said. "I know he has my best interests at heart and he'll help me with what I should do."

And if he leaves?

"I'm not even thinking about who I would replace him with," Bayno said. "My number one thing is keeping Cyp (in Las Vegas)."
