Lander County approves landfill fees

Beginning July 1, owners of single family homes will be charged $8 a month. A $7 monthly fee will be assessed for each unit in a duplex, condominium or mobile home, while owners of unoccupied property will pay $10 a year.

In additional, people who pay to Hoss Disposal Co. to have their trash collected every week will pay $4.95 a month, while commercial users will be charged a gate fee of $4 per cubic yard.

As some consolation to property owners, commissioners decided to offset the parcel fees somewhat by reducing the property tax for construction of the landfills from 10 cents to 5 cents per $100 of assessed valuation.

"It's a dirty job, but somebody's got to do it," Commission Jim Fouts said.
