Panel backs tax plan for new schools

The Southern Nevada Strategic Planning Authority says the funding plan may be the only way the booming school district can keep up with its rapid growth.

The plan goes before voters in November.

The authority's 21-member board Monday endorsed the school tax plan as part of an overall set of school infrastructure standards. Included is a proposal calling for no more than 30 pupils per classroom.

The panel also endorsed a proposed quarter-cent sales tax to pay for expansion of Southern Nevada's water delivery system.
