Letter: Today's moms must be both mother and father

I am writing in regard to all mothers out there. Happy Mother's Day!

I sit and think about all the roles mothers have played in all our lives. My mother raised us in a family of three with a father in the home. Yet, in my situation, I have to play both mother and father. My ex-husband divorced me two years ago. I know you've heard the excuse before: "I don't love you and don't want to be married." When this happened, I asked my mom if my dad had ever said those words to her. Well, she said, yes, but that times were different.

Now, moms must be both mother and father. I am raising my son in hopes that he doesn't do this to any woman. I am so glad I at least have my son to try to add a better person to this society. I have to be the provider, role model and security that he felt when his father was in the home.

Our roles have expanded, women, but we can do it! We must teach our sons and daughters responsibility like our parents taught us. I hope everyone enjoys the day with their children. This is our day to realize the importance we play in this world. Happy Mother's Day!
