Obituaries for May 12, 1998

Edward Joseph Audette, 70, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local care center. He was born Oct. 7, 1927, in Connecticut. A resident for nine years, he was a construction laborer.

He is survived by his sister, Beatrice.

No services are planned. Desert Memorial handled arrangements.

PATRICK BAULT

Patrick Bault of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born in Fort Worth, Texas. A resident for more than 50 years, he was a retired mason and a 40-year member of Cement Masons Local 797.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; a son, Brandon Bault, and daughter, Patricia Bault, all of Las Vegas.

Private services will be held. Affordable Cremation & Burial Service handled arrangements.

NORMA JEAN PRESTWICH BURGENER

Norma Jean Prestwich Burgener, 72, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local care center. She was born June 22, 1925, in Delta, Utah. A resident for 34 years, she was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She is survived by her husband, Melvin F.; two sons, Ronald Burgener of Houston and Douglas Burgener of Las Vegas; two daughters, Faye Fackrell of Las Vegas and Jeananne Larsen of Rohnert Park, Calif.; a sister, Evelyn Conk of Las Vegas; two brothers, Kent Prestwich of St. George, Utah, and Lloyd Prestwich of Salt Lake City; 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., and 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the 6th LDS Ward Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel.

RONALD CALHOUN

Ronald Calhoun, 70, of Las Vegas died April 16 in Las Vegas. He was born Sept. 11, 1927. He was a one-year resident.

A graveside service was scheduled at 10 a.m. today at Woodlawn Cemetery.

RAYMOND JOSEPH CARRAWAY

Raymond Joseph Carraway, 49, of Henderson died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born May 21, 1948, in Oakland, Calif. A resident for 18 years, he was an HVAC specialist for the state.

He is survived by his wife, Rashona; two daughters, Tracy McCormick of Las Vegas and Buffy Thomas of North Las Vegas; his mother, Vernice Carraway of Los Angeles, and father, Hobart Carraway Sr. of Vallejo, Calif.; a brother, Hobart Carraway Jr. of California; and four grandchildren.

Visitation is 9:15-9:45 a.m. Wednesday at Pebble Canyon LDS Ward Chapel, 2700 Pebble Road, with services at 10. Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., handled arrangements.

TAMMARA LYNN CARTER

Tammara Lynn Carter, 32, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. She was born May 27, 1965, in North Hollywood, Calif. A resident for 3 1/2 years, she was a bartender at the MGM Grand.

She is survived by her father, Raymond Sizemore, and mother, Karen Sizemore; a brother, Chris Sizemore, and sister, Nicole Sizemore.

No local services are planned. Desert Memorial handled arrangements.

H. ROMAINE DIETRICK

H. Romaine Dietrick, 81, of Las Vegas died Saturday at a local hospital. She was born Nov. 17, 1916, in Wilkes Barre, Pa. A resident since 1972, she was a retired grocery store checker and a member of the St. Jude's Women's Auxiliary.

She is survived by a niece, Casey Davison of Las Vegas; and a nephew, Greg Dietrick of South Carolina.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St.

DOTTYE HAWLEY DIMAGGIO

Dottye Hawley DiMaggio, 94, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born April 25, 1904, in Hossie, Texas. A resident for 42 years, she was the owner of Dot's Cleaners.

She is survived by four daughters, Dixie McNeely of Lubbock, Texas, Jessye Spreckerman of Fenton, Mo., Laverne Bogiagis of Westminster, Calif., and Laquita Cameron of Las Vegas; a sister, Ruby Smith of Lockney, Texas; 15 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave. Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Davis.

SARA "SHIRLEY" GOTTLIEB

Sara "Shirley" Gottlieb, 80, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local care center. She was born March 30, 1918, in Philadelphia. A resident for four years, she was a homemaker and a member of Friends Club of Woodland Hills.

She is survived by her husband, Jacob; three sons, Richard, Kenneth and Bruce; two sisters, Evelyn Krieger and Rose Kliman; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services were held Monday at Desert Memorial chapel.

BEATRICE E. HAMBLIN

Beatrice E. Hamblin, 64, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospice. She was born July 23, 1933, in Maine. A resident for six years, she was a bartender.

She is survived by a daughter, Marlane Norris of Vancouver, Wash.; a son, Joe Hamblin of Las Vegas; a brother, Joseph Creamer of San Jose, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

Services and burial will be in California. Bunkers Mortuary handled local arrangements.

MARIAN RUTH HAMM

Marian Ruth Hamm, 65, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born Aug. 21, 1932, in Williamsport, Pa. A resident since 1960, she was a retired receptionist.

She is survived by two sons, Andrew Hamm III and Scott Hamm of Las Vegas; a daughter, Denise Mulcahy of Las Vegas; two brothers, Charles Strayer of Harrisburg, Pa., and George W. Strayer of Williamsport; two sisters, Joanne Hunter of Williamsport and Catherine Lombardi of Connecticut; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The family suggests contributions to Family Home Hospice.

Arrangements were handled by Affordable Cremation & Burial Service.

THOMAS FREDERICK HENDERSON JR.

Thomas Frederick Henderson Jr., 73, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born Sept. 26, 1924, in Palestine, Texas. A resident for five years, he was retired from the real estate business, a World War II Army Air Corps veteran and a member of the Elks.

He is survived by his wife, Fleta C.; two daughters, Linda Kay Neal of San Diego and Ka S Henderson of Ogden, Utah; two sons, John S. Henderson of Las Vegas and Thomas F. Henderson of Alexander City, Ala.; a brother, Don Henderson of Old Hickory, Tenn., and sister, Doris Allen of Harlingen, Texas; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Arrangements were handled by Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

HAZEL MURTY

Hazel Murty, 65, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born Feb. 6, 1933, in Glasgow, Scotland. A resident for 23 years, she was a hotel-casino hostess.

She is survived by her husband, Richard; a son, Neal Murty; a daughter, Marina Cheney, all of Las Vegas; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be noon until 1 p.m. services Wednesday at Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd.

IMA JEAN PIKE

Ima Jean Pike, 69, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born, Aug. 23, 1928, in Paducah, Texas. A resident for 23 years, she worked 12 years at a care center, was a homemaker and a member of the Charleston Heights Sewing Club.

She is survived by her husband, Wendell; two daughters, Rita Edmondson of Buena Park, Calif., and Paula Spina of Las Vegas; a brother, Melvin Gladden of Alameda, Calif.; two sisters, Leota Yarbough of Fort Worth, Texas, and Suebelle Robbins of Gun Barrel City, Texas; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation is 2-7 p.m. Wednesday at Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Palm.

SEBASTIAN "SAL" PLACENCIA

Sebastian "Sal" Placencia, 71, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. He was born Jan. 20, 1927, in Goleta, Calif. A resident for eight years, he was a retired construction worker and a World War II Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah; a daughter, Diana Webb of Las Vegas; four sons, Robert P. Placencia of Las Vegas, George S. Placencia and Toby L. Placencia, both of Sherwood, Ore., and Sebastian Placencia Jr. of Dinuba, Calif.; four sisters, Erminia Valdez amd Rosie Beltram, both of Santa Barbara, Calif., Candelaria Arevalos of Lompoc, Calif., and Carmen Garcia of Goleta; three brothers, Henry V. Placencia of Goleta, Cipriano Placencia of Santa Barbara and Francis Placencia of Lompoc; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation is 1-8 p.m. Wednesday at Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Services will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Palm with burial at 10 a.m. Thursday at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorai Cemetery.

JAMES FRANCIS POKUTA

James Francis Pokuta, 55, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. He was born Feb. 21, 1943, in Chicago. A resident for eight years, he was a real estate investor and a member of the American Diabetes Association.

He is survived by two daughters, Kim Pokuta of Diamond Bar, Calif., and Rachael Pokuta of Las Vegas; his parents, Alice and Matthew Pokuta of Las Vegas; a brother, Jerry Pokuta of Marina Del Rey, Calif.; and two sisters, Cynthia LoCascio of Las Vegas and Susan Pokuta-Fine of Chicago.

The family requests memorial contributions to the National Diabetes Foundation.

Services were Monday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Arrangements were handled by Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave.

TANYA JENENE QUINCEY

Tanya Jenene Quincey, 37, of North Las Vegas died Saturday. She was born Dec. 4, 1960, in Las Vegas, and was a lifelong resident of the area.

She is survived by her mother, Grace P. Quincey, and sister, Deborah A. Quincey, both of of Las Vegas.

Visitation will be noon-7 p.m. Wednesday at Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services will be noon Thursday at Palm.

ARTHUR ROZEN

Arthur Rozen, 90, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born March 24, 1908, in Chelsea, Mass. A resident for 50 years, he was an investor and a member of the Las Vegas Country Club.

He is survived by his wife, Anna Marie.

JAMES EDGAR SOWERS

James Edgar Sowers, 63, of Las Vegas died May 4 in Las Vegas. He was born Aug. 14, 1934, in Indiana. A resident for 10 years, he was a security guard.

He is survived by his mother, Janie Frances Longberry of Henderson, and a sister, Patty Bashaw of Henderson.

A graveside service will be at 10:45 a.m. Thursday at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Hites Funeral Services handled arrangements.

BLAKE STAMPLEY JR.

Blake Stampley Jr., 47, of Las Vegas died Thursday in Las Vegas. He was born Jan. 22, 1951, in Russun, Miss. A resident since 1968, he was a hotel butcher.

He is survived by his wife, Vicki Price of Las Vegas; three sons, Blake Shauntaye Stampley and Leslie Hildreth, both of Las Vegas, and David Stampley of Phoenix; a daughter, Carmel Gadsen of Las Vegas; his mother, Emma Stampley-Daugherty of Las Vegas; four brothers, Henry Stampley of Vicksburg, Miss., and Clay Stampley, Donald M. Stampley and Andre Stampley, all of Las Vegas; three sisters, Bertha House of Irving, Texas, and Linda Stampley and Dorothy Daugherty both of Las Vegas; and six grandchildren.

Visitation will continue until 8 p.m. today at Bunkers Mortuary. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bunkers Chapel.

GLENNON EDWARD WEISKOPF

Glennon Edward Weiskopf, 56, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. He was born June 18, 1941, in Missouri. A resident for 18 years, he worked at Nellis Air Force Base commissary for 15 years following his retirement from the Air Force after 20 years. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War.

He is survived by his wife, Linda M.; two daughters, Julie Ann Mills and Jeaneth H. Sparks, both of Henderson; a son, James Edward Weiskopf of Las Vegas; two brothers, Norman Weiskopf of Union, Mo., and Ronald Weiskopf of St. Louis; a sister, LaVern Biehl of Sullivan, Mo.; and three grandchildren.

Visitation is 11 a.m.-4 p.m. services Wednesday at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Burial will be at Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

ISABELLE ZAMORA

Isabelle Zamora, 76, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. She was born July 26, 1921, in Pennsylvania. A resident for nine years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, Robert Zamora and Francis Perriello; a sister, Loretta Bradley; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
