5-year-old, grandmother killed in traffic accident

Hilda Aarenau, 63, of Las Vegas was dead at the scene of the 8:58 a.m. accident, police said. Her grandson, Aviezer Aarenau, was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.
Ms. Aarenau was driving through an intersection in east Las Vegas when another car, being driven by an unidentified man, entered the intersection on a red light and struck the right side of Ms. Aareneu's vehicle.
Las Vegas firefighters followed the suspect vehicle as the man continued speeding and running red lights. Several citizens had called police before the accident and reported the reckless driver.
The man was taken to University Medical Center, where he underwent surgery and was listed in serious condition.
He has been charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter and two counts of felony reckless driving.
Ms. Aarenau was wearing a seat belt, and the boy was properly secured in a child seat, police said.
