"America West is interested in serving Lake Tahoe, but, at the present time we do not meet with their corporate strategy," city manager Kerry Miller said.
Miller, along with Vesta Rea-Gaubert of Vesta Rea & Associates, the firm hired by the city to re-establish commercial passenger service at the airport, met last week with America West representatives in Phoenix.
The city manager said the airline would only consider service from its southwestern Arizona headquarters. The city is more interested in establishing service from the San Francisco Bay area and Los Angeles.
Miller didn't rule out the possibility that the airline and the city may work together in the future, calling the meeting "a good exchange of ideas."
The city will meet with other airlines in coming months, including some that may be interested in flying from Tahoe to the big California markets, Miller added.
The Lake Tahoe Airport has been without a commercial airline for two years.
