Independent American Party lists candidates

Former Assemblyman Chuck Horne of Mesquite will be the party's candidate for governor. Horne served in the 1985 Legislature as a Republican.

Dan Hansen of Sparks was named the party's lieutenant governor candidate, while his brother, Las Vegas lawyer Joel Hansen, will run for attorney general.

Also running are Jess Howe of Las Vegas, 1st Congressional District; Christopher Horne of Mesquite, 2nd Congressional District; Merritt Yochum of Carson City, state treasurer; Mary Ann Dickens of Carson City, secretary of state; and Thomas F. Jefferson of Elko, state controller.

The candidates were selected by the party during its convention last weekend in Las Vegas.

Latest secretary of state figures show 15,477 of the state's 850,518 registered voters are Independent American.

Other Independent American candidates are Lucille Lusk of Las Vegas, Assembly District 2; Bob Peterson of Las Vegas; Assembly District 4; Christopher Hansen of Henderson, Assembly District 21; Frank Bergwall of Ruth, Assembly District 35; and John deTar of Reno; Assembly District 37.

Unlike candidates for the Democratic and Republican parties, members of the Independent American Party and other minor parties have until July 1 to file their candidacies.

Candidates with major parties must file by Monday.
