A chronological list of some blockbuster trades in the history of sports:

April 12, 1916 - The Boston Red Sox trade Tris Speaker to the Cleveland Indians for Sad Sam Jones, Fred Thomas and $55,000.

Jan. 3, 1920 - The Boston Red Sox trade Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees for $125,000 and a $300,000 loan to Boston owner Harry Frazee.

Dec. 20, 1926 - The New York Giants trade Frankie Frisch and Jimmy Ring to the St. Louis Cardinals for Rogers Hornsby.

Dec. 12, 1933 - The Philadelphia Athletics trade Lefty Grove, Rube Wallberg and Max Bishop to the Boston Red Sox for Bob Kline, Rabbit Warstler and $125,000.

Dec. 10, 1935 - The Philadelphia Athletics trade Jimmie Foxx along with Johnny Marcum to the Boston Red Sox for Gordon Rhodes, minor-leaguer George Savino and $150,000.

Dec. 11, 1941 - The St. Louis Cardinals trade Johnny Mize to the New York Giants for Ken O'Dea, Bill Lohrman, Johnny McCarthy and $50,000.

June 13, 1952 - The Dallas Texans trade the selection rights to Les Richter to the Los Angeles Rams for Dick Hoerner, Tom Keane, George Sims, Joe Reid, Billy Baggett, Jack Halliday, Dick McKissack, Vic Vasicek, Richard Wilkins, Aubrey Phillips and Dave Anderson.

March 23, 1959 - The Chicago Cardinals trade Ollie Matson to the Los Angeles Rams for Frank Fuller, Glenn Holtzman, Ken Panfil, Art Hauser, John Tracey, Larry Hickman, Don Brown, the Rams second-round choice in 1960, and a player to be delivered during the 1959 training camp.

Dec. 9, 1965 - The Cincinnati Reds trade Frank Robinson to the Baltimore Orioles for Milt Pappas, Jack Baldschun and Dick Simpson.

March 3, 1968 - The Toronto Maple Leafs trade Frank Mahovlich, Gary Unger, Pete Stemkowski and the rights to Carl Brewer to the Detroit Red Wings for Paul Henderson, Norm Ullman and Floyd Smith.

July 5, 1968 - The Philadelphia 76ers trade Wilt Chamberlain to the Los Angeles Lakers for Darrell Imhoff, Archie Clark and Jerry Chambers plus an undisclosed amount of cash.

Jan. 28, 1971 - The Washington Redskins trade Marlin McKeever, first- and second-round choices in 1971, and third-, fourth-, fifth-, sixth-, and seventh-round choices in 1972 to the Los Angeles Rams for Maxie Baughan, Jack Pardee, Myron Pottios, Jeff Jordan, John Wilbur, Diron Talbert, and a fifth-round choice in 1971.

July 13, 1972 - Los Angeles Rams part-owner Robert Irsay purchase the remaining $19 million in stock and swaps franchises with Baltimore Colt owner Carroll Rosenbloom.

Oct. 22, 1974 - The Los Angeles Rams trade John Hadl to the Green Bay Packers for a first- second- and third-round choice in the 1975 draft and a first- and second-round choice in the 1976 draft.

June 16, 1975 - The Milwaukee Bucks trade Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, along with Walt Wesley, to the Los Angeles Lakers for Elmore Smith, Brian Winters, Dave Meyers and Junior Bridgeman.

Nov. 7, 1975 - The Boston Bruins trade Phil Esposito and Carol Vadnais to the New York Rangers for Brad Park, Jean Ratelle and Joe Zanussi.

Oct. 20, 1976 - The New York Nets trade Julius Erving to the Philadelphia 76ers for an estimated $3 million.

June 15, 1977 - The New York Mets trade Tom Seaver to the Cincinnati Reds for Pat Zachry, Steve Henderson, Doug Flynn and Dan Norman.

Summer, 1982 - Soccer foward Diego Maradona transfers from Argentinos Juniors of the Argentina League to Barcelona of the Spanish League for $4 million.

May 2, 1983 - The Baltimore Colts trade the rights to John Elway to the Denver Broncos for Mark Herrmann, the rights to Chris Hinton and a first-round pick in the 1984 draft.

Spring, 1984 - Soccer forward Diego Maradona transfers from Barcelona of the Spanish League to Napoli of the Italian League for $11 million.

Oct. 31, 1987 - The Los Angeles Rams trade Eric Dickerson to the Indianapolis Colts in a three-team deal. The Colts trade the rights to Cornelius Bennett to the Buffalo Bills. The Colts send Owen Gill and their first- and second-round choices in 1988 and first-round choice in 1989, plus Bills running back Greg Bell and Buffalo's first-round choice in 1988 and first- and second-round choices in 1989 to the Rams.

Aug. 9, 1988 - The Edmonton Oilers trade Wayne Gretzky, Mike Krushelnyski, and Marty McSorley to the Los Angeles Kings for an undisclosed amount of cash, Jimmy Carson, Martin Gelinas, and first-round draft picks in 1989, 1991 and 1993.

Oct. 12, 1989 - The Dallas Cowboys trade Herschel Walker to the Minnbesota Vikings for Jesse Solomon, David Howard, Issiac Holt, Alex Stewart, Darrin Nelson, its' 1992 first-round draft choice and six conditional draft picks over the next three years.

May 18, 1990 - Soccer forward Robert Baggio transfers from Fiorentina of the Italian League to Juventus of Turin of the Italian League for $13 million.

Dec. 5, 1990 - The Toronto Blue Jays traded Fred McGriff, first baseman and Tony Fernandez, shortstop, to the San Diego Padres for Joe Carter, outfielder and Roberto Alomar, second baseman.

Sept. 19, 1991 - The Edmonton Oilers trade Grant Fuhr, Glenn Anderson and Craig Berube to the Toronto Maple Leafs for Vincent Damphousse, Peter Ing, Scott Thornton, Luke Richardson and future considerations.

June 30, 1992 - The Quebec Nordiques traded the rights to Eric Lindros, center, to the Philadelphia Flyers for Ron Hextall, goalie; Mike Ricci and Peter Forsberg, centers; Steve Duchesne and Kerry Huffman, defensemen; Chris Simon, left wing; their first-round picks in the 1993 and 1994 entry draft and $15 million.

Aug. 31, 1992 - The Oakland Athletics traded Jose Canseco, outfielder, to the Texas Rangers for Ruben Sierra, outfielder; Bobby Witt and Jeff Russell, pitchers, and undisclosed amount of money.

March 1, 1997 - The Boston Bruins traded Adam Oates, center; Rick Tocchet, right wing; and Bill Ranford, goalie, to the Washington Capitals for Jim Carey, goalie; Jason Allison and Anson Carter, centers, and a 1997 third-round draft choice.

May 15, 1998 - The Florida Marlins traded Gary Sheffield, outfielder; Bobby Bonilla, third baseman; Charles Johnson, catcher; Jim Eisenreich, outfielder and RHP Manuel Barrios to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Mike Piazza, catcher and Todd Zeile, third baseman.
