Letter: High-tech inventory system costs jobs, pollutes Earth

I was just reading the article in the Sun about school equipment and bar-coding. I think it's ridiculous. Why does everything have to be done as fast as possible?

The easier it is, the fewer people it takes to do it. Which means that someone's being swindled out of a job.

If a bar code is read like a UPC code, then it is probably run by a radioactive isotope, which powers the laser that identifies the code. It must be replaced every six months and it has a half-life of 500 years. So it becomes radioactive sludge.

Why must we destroy jobs and pollute the Earth? To save money? I don't think that's a good reason. In fact, it makes me sick.
