4,000 have now signed up for child health program

The program was funded by Congress last year. Nevada legislators and Gov. Bob Miller's administration came up with $16.4 million to match more than $30 million in federal money.

Officials said they hope to use the money to provide coverage for up to 60,000 children in the state who may fall in the gap between Medicaid programs and those with medical coverage either through work or other private sources.

Applications are available in more than 250 locations throughout the state including family resource centers, tribal offices, welfare offices and local schools.

Miller said more and more applications are coming in every week and he expects the state to reach even more parents through outreach programs.
