Letter: Baseball fan enjoys Sunday night broadcasts

For this 86-year-old baseball fan, the TV broadcasts of Major League Baseball by Jon Miller and Big Red veteran Joe Morgan are the greatest.

I have been listening to play-by-play broadcasts of Major League Baseball since the '20s. Then, the broadcast consisted of a dramatization of a Western Union Morse code description of the game by a studio announcer.

This is to show my fascination with baseball as a boy. At the time, my Norwegian immigrant-farmer father could not understand why his young son could refuse to operate the horse-drawn corn cultivator in order to hear the World Series broadcast on crystal radio. And Sundays, I would manage a pasture league team of farm-boy baseball players.

Miller and Morgan provide a complete, colorful, entertaining description of a baseball game, a couch-potato baseball fan's delight. It is the nearest thing to being in the ball park.
