Letter: Seek different avenues to solve water shortage

The Southern Nevada Water Authority is attacking the potential water shortage the wrong way. Why penalize the homeowner for watering his lawn?

Is this to conserve water for his neighbor's installation of a swimming pool? Is it to conserve water for the new casino being built down the block, so it may have virtual lakes like Treasure Island or fountains like Caesars Palace?

Or is it for the developer who is building a lake so that the property around it will be worth more money? Does someone want to build another golf course that they can water?

It doesn't matter if these properties have their own wells; it still comes out of the water table.

The bottom line is that my grandkids will pay for this. Instead of shortcuts, and as long as we are going to collect from even apartment dwellers, invest the money necessary to install a Salt Removal Plant for Los Angeles and when it's up and running, shut off their water from Lake Mead.

Build a plant similar to the one below Yuma on the Colorado River. That was funded by the government to resolve the friction between Mexico and the United States.
