Letter: Sinatra's passing mourned worldwide

With Frank Sinatra disappears an era that he himself started. Not only a romantic era, where four generations fell in love and got married, but an era where Americans around the world were role models.

With John Wayne's movies and Sinatra's songs, people around the world learned to love and respect the people of United States.

A few years ago in Santo Domingo, a Spanish-speaking country, Sinatra had one of his biggest performances in "Concert for the Americas."

What person over 60 has not recalled his or her life listening to "It Was a Very Good Year" or "Strangers in the Night."

Very few persons in the history of the world have been mourned in so many countries the way Frank Sinatra is mourned today.

I am sure there is no city in the world today where newspapers and broadcasting stations won't mention Ol' Blue Eyes with enormous sadness while they play his most popular tunes for millions and millions of people, even when many of them don't know the meaning of the words of his songs.

Leaving with Sinatra are the remnants of the best of my generation. We are going to miss you.
