Dawn of a new Sun

Some of our content has changed, too, although you can still find your favorite columnists in their new homes, along with some fresh faces.

The features you enjoy can be found in the same places every day, saving you from searching through the paper.

And in the tradition of this newspaper, we will continue bringing you today's news today. We are your local newspaper -- the only locally owned daily newspaper in town.

We are committed to being the publication you need to read to learn what is happening in the Las Vegas Valley, why it is happening and, most importantly, how it affects you.

Among the changes and additions you will find in this issue or coming editions are:

* The editorial and opinion pages have moved to the inside back pages of the A section.

* The Where I Stand column has moved from the front page to opposite the editorial page, where it will appear Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

* National and international news have moved to the A section, beginning on page A3.

* The weather package, along with lottery results, has moved to A2 each day.

* The B section is now called Metro and will be dedicated to local news.

* Obituaries and death notices will now appear in the back of the B section.

* Jeff German's column has moved from page A3 to the Metro section.

* Ruthe Deskin, who has written a Where I Stand column once a week since 1954, will instead write a new column for the Sun. It will appear on the front of the Thursday Accent section.

* A weekly column by Melissa Schorr will run Mondays on the Accent cover and express opinions from the 20-something generation's perspective.

* A separate, stand-alone Business section every day, Section C, will feature on Page 3C a gaming page with news and notes from the industry.

* Expanded stock lists, one on the Business cover and one on the gaming page, will include more local stocks and more gaming stocks.

* On Fridays, Sports, Section D, will have a page devoted exclusively to motor sports with notes and standings from all the major racing series including NASCAR, CART, Formula One, the Indy Racing League and NHRA drag racing.

* An expanded sports betting line will appear on Page 2D every day, featuring daily odds as well as NFL, NBA, NHL, Major League Baseball and NASCAR futures.

* Also on 2D, you will find new and expanded sports TV and radio listings.

* In the Accent section, Section E, you will find Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert movie reviews -- an exclusive in Las Vegas. Also in this section, there will be advice columns and comics anchored every day on the inside back two pages.

The Sun is published Monday through Friday. Our offices are at 800 S. Valley View Blvd.

On Saturdays, two pages of Sun news and comics appear in the Review-Journal, while on Sunday the Sun has a six-page section of news and opinion in the Review-Journal.
