Brief: Casinos top political spending

The Missouri Supreme Court ruled gambling is only allowed on the main channels of the Missouri and Mississippi rivers. In order to keep its boats in moats, the industry is financing a ballot proposal.

Missourians for Fairness and Jobs, an industry front, has spent more than $5.1 million campaigning for boats and moats. Missourians for Fairness and Jobs was by far the biggest spender among all candidates and campaign committees this election season, the Post-Dispatch in St. Louis reported.

A group opposing boats in moats, "Show Me the River," had spent just $31,795.
