"You can afford to get drunk but cannot afford to pay child support?" Churchill County District Judge David Huff said.
Gregory Delpozzo, 47, was ordered this week to serve 30 days in the county jail after failing to make any support payments for his two children since 1987.
He owes $28,200 in back child support - $41,535 if interest is included, deputy district attorney Peggy Stevens said.
Stevens said Delpozzo told her he thought the payments were optional. He said he lives in a tent on public lands in Middlegate.
"We served him with the order and he just blew it off," the prosecutor said.
