The city of Henderson sponsors the following events:

Music festival: "Wildflower '98 -- A Celebration of Women's Voices" music festival will be 7-11 p.m. Saturday at the Civic Center Plaza, 240 Water St. Tickets are $7 for adults; $3 for youths (ages 18 and under) and seniors. Call 565-2367.

Going to Disneyland: A trip to Disneyland is scheduled Oct. 17 from the Lorna J. CELEBRATION EVENTS

In honor of National Coming Out Day, the Lambda Business and Professional Association and the Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Southern Nevada will host entertainment, food, workshops and family activities from noon-10 p.m. Saturday at Winchester Community Center, 3130 S. COWBOY REVISITED

MUSIC RECITAL

LECTURE SCHEDULED

"Alexander the Great: A Man for All Seasons," a slide-lecture, will be presented by Harvard University Professor David G. AUDITIONS

The "Make A Better World Foundation" is sponsoring a citywide essay, poem, song and poster contest for children. The theme is "My Vision of a Drug-Free World." LOCAL HONORED

John J. Johnson, 22, of Las Vegas was awarded an honorable mention in a national "It's Cool to be in Control" video contest sponsored by Mother's Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and Dep, the hair gel. Johnson's video was one of 10 Honorable Mentions in his age category. He received a year's supply of Dep hair styling products and passes to a national movie theater chain.
