Letter: Speech limits reek of Nazis

The area was the victim of a land war between the two countries. The locals were forbidden by law to initiate any conversation in France. Signs posted everywhere stated: "Speak your mother's language. Your mother's language is German!"

Because our railroad maintenance crew consisted of slave labor from the low lands of occupied Holland to the distant lands of the U.S.S.R., many of us didn't speak either language. Somehow we managed. Our crew and the locals alike realized that we are all brothers in despair and we made the best of it. Colmar once again belonged to France.

However many of today's commissioners remind me of yesteryear's Kommissars. If McCarran wants to become a world airport it's time to grow up and learn how to communicate. Europeans are used to boarding a train at the airport.

The only public transportation Las Vegas has is a bus named CAT. Yet tourist and locals alike will never be able to find it because McCarran lacks the directional signs informing people that there is more than a taxi or limo to get around. Do I smell a rat or is it politics as usual?
